Extralite Hubs…..Any Good?

I’m frequently asked…..are Extralite Hubs any good?

The answer is a resounding yes. Let me explain.

Uccello High Performance Wheels are built with all out on road performance as the sole objective. This requires the components to be both very strong and very light. High performance wheels require a hub with smooth rolling bearings, a low drag free hub, a wide hub flange spacing and light weight. Extralite hubs fit the bill perfectly.

Extralite hub bodies are machined from high quality AL 7075TX Alloy in one continuous step. This results in a very accurate hub body and perfectly aligned bearings. Poorly aligned bearings in lower quality hubs wear out in no time, ceramic bearings included. The bearings fitted to Extralite Hubs are also larger than most others, further improving performance and bearing life.

The flange spacing on Extralite Hubs is also wider than almost all others. Lateral wheel stiffness is dependant on flange spacing far more than extreme spoke tension. The high stiffness of the wheels vastly improves the cornering and bike handling of these carbon wheels.

The two pawl free hub has very low drag. Low drag provides for excellent rolling when coasting on the flats or down hill. Down hill these wheels are faster than almost anything else.

High performance wheels still need to be reliable. Extralite hubs are superbly engineered and have a recommended service interval of 1 year or 20,000km of training and racing. Servicing is simple and straight forward. A full list of spare parts is available from the Uccello Cycles web shop Here.

Remember, Light + Strong = Fast.
